"I don’t consider myself a philanthropist. I consider myself someone who is community minded, and wanting to help the community, and those less fortunate than myself and my family. I work full time, and so I don’t have a lot of free time to give to the community, and so I thought what better way to do it than to start giving now.
I’m not sure that my endowment fund will reach the level to give grants to the community before I pass on, but there’s something in my will to make it continue after I have gone. The other thing that really pushes my buttons is that if I give $1000 and claim the tax year after year after year, my $1000 actually becomes $1500 after 5 years if you continue to claim the tax back.
The other thing is the awesome job the Trustees of the Acorn Foundation are doing, in that they’re making good money with the money that has been invested with them. That is something that I really think is great. So not only are we giving money, but the fund is making money. "
