“I want to see other people benefiting from what my husband and I have worked and saved for. This gives me a real sense of joy.” Elva Shepherd - Donor
“I have always loved the performing arts and was brought up with classical music. I played the piano for many years, but alas, did not continue in later life. Whenever possible I attend music and dance performances in Tauranga, and I especially enjoy seeing young people performing. I know how difficult it can be for these youngsters to follow their dreams when it comes to performing arts – it is very expensive to train at the top level, and many people have to make huge sacrifices in order to fulfil their potential. It’s not easy to find the funding.
I would love to help some of these talented young people, so I have set up an endowment fund with the Acorn Foundation. They will look after my money, and each year will provide scholarships from my fund to reward the top performers at the Tauranga Performing Arts Competitions, so hopefully they can go on to an even bigger and better stage.” Chris Tustain - Donor
'In the full spectrum of charities in New Zealand, the Acorn Foundation is a standout for its local focus on the special needs of our community, identifying individuals and truly worthwhile organisations, that may deserve but otherwise never receive support.
It's a pleasure to discover and give through such an organisation. We've already seen some of the results of its work. Acorn will make this region a better place.' Murray & Gay Read-Smith - Donors
“I am one very happy lady as I’m doing something to honour my husband, his favourite charity and the community.” Ros Granger - Donor
Jeanne Round had set up an endowment fund with the Acorn Foundation and she talked to Roy and I about doing something similar. We both enjoy children and we had been wondering how we could really help. We find giving through the Acorn Foundation is a wonderful way to help as they decide which are the most worthy causes, at the time. Acorn “keeps an ear to the ground” which we think is very important, as we don’t really know who needs money the most. We have been happy in New Zealand and we want to give something back. Mary McGowan - donor
“My brother and I never had children so it is nice being able to share some of our money with the community, through the Acorn Foundation. Even people who have children can give something for the community as well.”
Deidre Freeman & John Lucas
“What I really like about the Acorn concept, is your endowment is encapped for perpetuity, and your gift to the community goes on and on. That is the greatest thing you can do, to set up something that continues to give.”
