Charlie Rahiri


Ka tū au ki runga o Mauao, te maunga whakairinga kōrero, te maunga i herea mai te waka Takitimu. Kei runga o Mauao te Mauri nā Tamatea Arikinui, tū mai rā hei pouwhenua mō Ngāti Ranginui, Mō Ngai Te Rangi, Mō Ngāti Pukenga, Mō Waitaha. Ka tere tāku waka ki ōku Pāharakeke ki Mataatua waka, mai ngā kuri a whārei ki tihirau, ka rongo au i te kikini o ngā tai e pari ana e timu ana, he waka pūpū he waka wawao, tū, tū karangatā!

Charlie was born and bred in Tauranga Moana and was raised on the marae at Te Wairoa. He acknowledged this as his grounding in Te Ao Māori having been surrounded by Kaumatua from a very young age. He was nurtured on the Marae for roles on the Paepae, as an Āpotoro of the Ratana faith and in the kitchen and continues to serve his people through roles in his Marae and iwi.

He has a professional background in health and social services and government and has worked in Iwi, NGO’s, DHB and Central Government and is currently a Senior Advisor for Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry of Māori Development.

Charlie lives in Tauranga with his wahine and three Children.
