For over 25 years, NumberWorks’nWords tuition centre has been providing Maths and English tuition after school to students, improving educational outcomes and, therefore, long-term opportunities for their students. It's done in a fun and engaging manner, using young tutors and comprehensive interactive software.
However, local franchise owner, Leanne Rhodes-Robinson, is aware that this option is not available to all, as the cost of providing this individualised service is out of the reach of many Tauranga families, so has applied for funding to provide free places for disadvantaged students.
NumberWorks’nWords tries to be community-minded through providing free term tuition vouchers to schools to use in fund-raising, sponsoring school events and various children’s special needs events. They have a long-standing arrangement to provide free tuition to the ‘Homes of Hope’ children who want to attend (they have done this for over 15 years), and have provided free lessons during the day to students from Merivale School for a number of terms, when they have the staffing to do so. They also contribute on a regular basis to the Fred Hollows Foundation, World Vision, Forest & Bird, and to their own Acorn Foundation Fund to support community organisations that deal with disadvantaged children or their families.
