Filming Responsibly in Your Community
When we share stories, we’re working with real people in our communities. A few simple practices help ensure everyone feels respected & safe.
Let People Know You’re Filming
At events, always be transparent.
You can:
- Mention it at the beginning of the event that you're taking photos and videos.
-
Offer an opt-out option if someone prefers not to be filmed
Clear communication prevents awkward moments later.
When Interviewing Someone
If you’re filming:
• A sit-down interview
• A beneficiary story
• A volunteer testimonial
• A donor reflection
It’s best practice to use a signed media consent form.
Filming Children
If you are filming anyone under 18, you must obtain written consent from a parent or legal guardian before publishing the footage.
Be especially mindful of how children are presented. Avoid sharing full names, personal details, or information that could compromise their privacy or safety.
When in doubt, choose caution. Always prioritise the safety, dignity, of young people.
