Rod Calver: A Katikati Local Legend
For Rod and Maryanne Calver, Katikati is home, and supporting the people around them is something they care deeply about.
The couple share a spirit of adventure and a wonderful sense of humour. When they were invited to cycle the Otago Rail Trail, Maryanne had never ridden a bike before. She learned at 75, and at 90, she’s still getting out on the bike with Rod. Their cycling adventures have taken them from Auckland to Bluff, with the occasional disagreement about who’s doing the pedalling.
Closer to home, they’ve seen how much it matters to bring people together. Our latest video also features a local cancer exercise group, where staying active goes hand in hand with friendship, shared experiences and a coffee afterwards.
When Rod read about Acorn’s plans for a fund dedicated to Katikati, he and Maryanne decided to contribute. Through the Katikati Local Impact Fund, their generosity helps support local groups and initiatives, with donations invested to provide ongoing funding for the community they love.
For Rod, the reason for giving is simple: he can see the difference it makes. “It’s good for my soul and good for theirs, too.”
