Healthvision Festival of Disability Sport scores big in the Bay

More than 150 disabled athletes from across Aotearoa converged on Tauranga for the Healthvision Festival of Disability Sport, competing in wheelchair rugby league, sailing, basketball, boccia and more.
The two-day celebration was made possible by the Tauranga Western Bay Community Event Fund and the Kaupapa Māori Event Fund. Acorn is a proud partner in these collaborative funds, working alongside TECT, BayTrust, Tauranga City Council (TCC), and Western Bay of Plenty District Council (WBOPDC). Set up to streamline event funding and tackle the loneliness and isolation highlighted in the 2023 Vital Update research report, the funds help bring inclusive events like this to our region.
Our contribution helped Parafed Bay of Plenty and Healthvision deliver this national showcase for disabled sport.
“It was possibly the best festival we have had, with increased participants in both rugby and basketball this year. It was also the first time to introduce Rugby League to the festival, and it went down really well! We had a fantastic awards evening and, overall, we are very happy. We have had amazing feedback all round! Thank you, Acorn Foundation, for supporting us and presenting an award. We can’t wait for next year already!” — Suzanne Morrison, Event & Programme Support Manager, Parafed BOP
