The Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust is a community-based conservation Trust formed in 2002 by Te Puke Forest and Bird and other members of the community concerned at the decline of North Island brown kiwi in the Ōtanewainuku forest. The Trust operates under Community Agreement with the Department of Conservation (DOC) who administers the land and is responsible for managing and promoting conservation of the natural heritage of NZ.

The Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust works to protect kiwi, Kōkako and other fauna and the flora of the forest. Volunteer activities range from the more physically demanding, such as maintaining a trap line workdays in the forest, to quieter pursuits such as administration, guiding, fundraising or governance.

The Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust contribute to the following programmes, Pest Animal Control, Kiwi & Kōkako Translocation, Kiwi Chick Rearing with Project ONE, Education and Fundraising.
