What a Community Group Fund is

A Community Group Fund with the Acorn Foundation offers a forward-looking way for community organisations to build enduring financial resilience. Instead of relying solely on ad-hoc grants or yearly fundraising drives, contributions to the fund are invested, and the annual returns provide a stable income stream dedicated to the group’s mission.

Over time this dependable funding enables the organisation to plan ahead, retain or hire full-time staff, expand programmes and respond confidently to community needs. By supporting a Community Group Fund you’re helping ensure that the organisation can keep making a difference, long into the future.

About Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust

Founded in 2002, Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust is a locally-driven conservation trust formed by Forest & Bird Te Puke and community members concerned about the decline of the North-Island brown kiwi in the Ōtanewainuku forest.

Working under a community agreement with Department of Conservation, the Trust protects kiwi, kōkako and other native fauna and flora across the forest. Volunteer activities range from physically demanding tasks, like maintaining trap-lines, to quieter roles such as guiding, administration and fundraising.

Key programmes include pest animal control, kiwi and kōkako translocation, kiwi chick rearing in partnership with Project ONE, education initiatives and community fundraising.

By donating to this fund you’re supporting not just the restoration of native wildlife, but the long-term health of the forest ecosystem and the community who cares for it.
