Male Survivors Bay of Plenty (MSBOP) arrived in the Western BOP in mid-2019 and is a member organisation of Male Survivors Aotearoa who are the national advocacy and policy organisation for male survivors of abuse in New Zealand.

MSBOP is committed to helping men who have experienced sexual, physical and /or mental abuse discover their own recovery and healing. Our service delivery method is modelled on Intentional Peer Support (IPS) – a process that offers the unique opportunity for men who have suffered trauma to be supported by others who have been abused. This person-centred approach in underpinned by strength-based philosophies, with the life experience of the peer worker creating common ground from which a trusting relationship with the person is formed.

1 in 6 New Zealand males experience sexual abuse as young people. When we add men who have experienced mental, emotional, physical, and psychological abuse/violence the figure becomes 1 in 4 men with this experience.

MSBOP alongside our network of member groups nationally is a powerful resource of advice and lived experiences, which seeks to empower men in their recovery.

“We here at Male Survivors Bay of Plenty are so honoured to be a part of the healing and helping team in Tauranga.  The Acorn foundation is such a vital part of our organisation getting started in this area. You have enabled us to do what we do best: guide boys and men through difficult times in their lives, letting them know they are not alone.”
