What a Community Group Fund is

A Community Group Fund with Acorn Foundation enables local organisations to build reliable, long-term financial support rather than being solely dependent on annual appeals or one-off grants. Your donation is invested, with the capital preserved and the annual returns used to fund operations, programmes and staff. This dependable income stream gives the organisation the flexibility and confidence to plan ahead, invest in people and projects, and deepen their impact in the community for year after year.

About Sail for Life

The Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust (BoPSAT) exists to open the sport of sailing to young people “irrespective of means or ability”. Their mission is to provide opportunities for youth across the region to experience sailing and create pathways to engage with the sport for life.

BoPSAT achieves this through two main channels: by making sailing gear available at low cost to groups and individuals, and by delivering tailored support programmes.

They say that sailing develops qualities like tenacity, self-reliance, discipline, planning, respect for others and the marine environment, traits they believe benefit young people in every part of life.

By contributing to this fund you’re not just supporting boats and courses, you’re investing in the growth of young people in the Western Bay of Plenty, helping to unlock their potential, encourage inclusion and connect them with the water and the wider community.

Donate Now

If you’d like to support BoPSAT’s Community Group Fund, you can reach out to the Acorn Foundation team via the phone on 07 579 9839.

Alternatively, you can make a secure online donation via the Acorn website: select the “Give to a Community Group Fund” option and choose the Sail for Life (Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust) fund.

Every gift helps grow the fund’s capital and ensures that more young people in our region will have the chance to set sail, build confidence and be part of our abundant marine environment. Thank you for investing in their future and ours.
