Diabetes is a disorder that is characterised by a persistent high blood sugar (blood glucose) level. There are many causes of a high blood glucose level and, therefore, many ‘types’ of diabetes.
All types of diabetes can lead to a plethora of further health complications which commonly result in heart attack, stroke, vision loss, kidney failure, nerve damage and lower limb amputations.
Diabetes New Zealand is a Charitable Trust that represents and supports people living with or affected by diabetes. With teams across the country led by staff and volunteers who help people live well with diabetes. Our Mission is to ‘ensure every person living in Aotearoa New Zealand with diabetes or at risk of diabetes has equitable access to affordable, quality diabetes care and education’.
