About Taonga Tū Heritage Bay of Plenty – Museum Fund for Tauranga & Western Bay

Taonga Tū Heritage Bay of Plenty serves as the guardian of this endowment fund, established to support regional heritage and museum-style experiences across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. 

The purpose of the fund is clear: to build a financial base wherein the annual interest supports the daily operational costs of museum-style, in-situ heritage experiences — meaning places and experiences where important events actually happened, or sites of historical significance across the region. 

The fund was inspired by the life and legacy of Brian Davies (1934–2019), a dedicated volunteer with local heritage organisations who believed the people of Tauranga and Western Bay deserved a strong, visible museum presence. 

By contributing to this Fund, you’re helping ensure that the region’s stories — Māori, settler, natural and built heritage, have a strong foundation, remain accessible, and are kept alive through professional museum-style support.
