Museum Fund for Tauranga & Western Bay

Taonga Tauranga Heritage Bay of Plenty Charitable Trust is the kaitiaki of this endowment fund inspired by Brian Davies.

The fund's purpose

To build a fund whose annual interest will be used to contribute towards the development of a regional museum.  If, after ten to fifteen years, the city still does not have a mandate to build a regional museum, the fund will continue to be grown with its annual income being dispersed equally across deserving heritage experiences throughout our subregion.

About Brian Davies

Brian’s love of history led him to The Elms Te Papa where he was a long time guide and to Tauranga’s Historical Society as a committee member.  Brian was a strong supporter of Tauranga & Western Bay of Plenty getting its regional museum and was disappointed this was taking so long.  Brian believed the people of Tauranga and Western Bay were being let down.   His last wishes were for a fund to be set up towards the museum.  A place where the people could gather to tell their stores and to share their experiences with locals and visitors alike.
