Awhina House

Opened in early 2019, Awhina House is Tauranga's only Women's shelter, caring for our community's homeless women.

Awhina House is operated by the He Kaupapa Kotahitanga Charitable Trust and has a combination of paid and volunteer staff.

Awhina House has 12 beds and works hard to empower women and help them transform their lives.  They work with a range of other local providers to facilitate wraparound services to help women gain their independance and move into a place of their own.

Awhina House can offer women up to three months accommodation.

The mission statement for the shelter is to "nurture, advocate for, and protect the homeless women in Tauranga Moana" and the vision was for "no woman in Tauranga Moana to wake up in the morning without a hopeful future" - Angela Wallace, Awhina House Manager.

Awhina House has received funding from the Acorn Vital Impact Fund,  the J Chappell-Mathias Fund, N Campbell, Craigs Investment Partners Christmas Giving and Community Group Fund, Honeybadgers Giving Circle and The Tindall Foundation.
